Amber Fort and Palace

A favorite.
The hillside outside of Jaipur, Rajasthan, is covered with fortified walls and a spectacular road leads past the water moat and past the hungry tiger moat up to the huge castle gates.

Built in 16 the century by Raja Man Singh, the palace was lived in by the Rajput Maharajas and their families.

We entered by riding up the long and winding road as they did when this place was in operation - on painted elephants.

A room of inlaid mirrors and glass would be illuminated at night with candles and sometimes with colors to create various shimmering effects.
