Marlee (a new volunteer) and I drove to the other side of Phuket and got on the ferry on Friday afternoon for the two hour ride to Railey Beach, Krabi Province. Railey is on a peninsula and is only accessible by boat -- so no roads, cars, motorbikes, or motorized vehicles for two days.
Railey is known for rock climbing.

Going down the rocks with ropes to the lagoon |

The lagoon at the end of the climb down (a bit muddy, so no swim at the end of the climb). A case of "it's not the destination, it's the journey..." |

We had a great time.

Information about this cave at the end of the beach states that the spirit of the water princess, PraNang, resides here. It says that before fishermen go out fishing, they make promises and prayers to PhraNang. When their wishes are granted, they came back to the cave and make offerings of flowers, incense, and ‘lingams” or phallus figures. It said that Thai people believe that the lingams and the princess goddess’ fertile womb create fertility and prosperity for the whole earth and mankind. |
Sending wishes of prosperity......and safety, peace and happiness
