Similan Islands National Marine Park

On a long weekend of the long awaited high and "dry" season, Cris and I hopped in my car and drove 2 hours north to board our small boat for a 3 day/2 night live aboard snorkeling trip in the Koh Similan National Marine Park.

It took four hours to travel in our boat from mainland Thailand to the island group, and then we started our routine for three days: snorkeling, eating , reading, and more snorkeling.

We had a great group of ten of us, from Canada, Germany, Belgium, Philippines, Sweden, France, and me from the US, with our Swedish guide and Thai staff.  Everyone got along well (good thing - check out our communal sleeping quarters).

We also had fabulous, varied and abundant food.

Unfortunately, this dry season has not been too dry and it rained most of the time during those three days.  And it was cold.  In Thailand.

But we still snorkeled and saw some great things.  The water is so CLEAR and you can see not only down, but horizontally a very long way.  These photos were taken by our trip mates with their underwater cameras.

I can't wait to do this again, this time hoping for warmer weather.

Lion fish

Moray eel

Sea snake (poisonous)

The water was so blue and we could see to the bottom, even at night.

Three of us were taken in the dingy for an early morning beach walk.   Our boat is in the distance.
